One Burger a Week in 2014
A year ago I embarked on a mission to try a different hamburger around town each week. This week, being the last of the year 2014, I have completed my project to eat 52 burgers in 52 different places. The mission is officially complete, but I will continue the chase.
This has not really been a contest. I am no foodie, and have no culinary credentials. I’m just an average American who likes to eat burgers on a regular basis.
Though no clear ‘winner’ emerged, I will soon publish a list of my ranking of all 52 burgers. There are few surprise. Look for the complete list on or around Groundhog Day.
Part of the process was to photograph each ‘contestant’ which turned out to be my second favorite part. Visit my flickr account to see all the burgers in the #52burgerproject.
Why Eat 52 Burgers?
Two years ago I had to move back to Greensboro in order to become the 24/7 caregiver for my failing brother. I’d been in Atlanta for about 20 years and had never planned on coming back. (Don’t plan.)
Anyway, I have been very limited in the time and money I could spend outside of our home. The little outings to eat a hamburger were something that I could work into my budget and spending an hour or so with a meal out once a week was a real treat, and genuinely therapeutic. I can’t see anyone with a ‘normal’ life having a very easy time with this endeavor.
On December 15th, my brother died, and this past Sunday I ate burger number 52, at The Print Works Bistro. Time to rest, reflect, and re-invent
Soon I will be adding much more here about my experiences and discoveries. Please come back, and send a friend.
